Exploring the Molecular Logic of Plant Stress Adaptation and Biotechnological Applications

Ming-Tsair Chan is a plant biotechnologist and agricultural biotechnologist whose research focuses on how plants enhance their adaptability to environmental stresses, pathogen pressure, and changing cultivation conditions through gene regulation, molecular breeding, and transformation technologies. His work integrates plant molecular biology, genetic transformation platforms, stress physiology, and horticultural crop applications, with particular emphasis on mechanisms underlying plant tolerance to cold, salinity, drought, oxidative stress, and diseases, as well as flowering regulation and biotechnological improvement in ornamental plants such as orchids. Through his long-term commitment to crop gene function analysis, non-antibiotic selectable marker systems, Agrobacterium-mediated transformation technologies, and plant stress-tolerance research, he seeks to bridge fundamental plant science with agricultural production, the horticultural industry, biotechnology applications, and food security.
