Sy-Chyi Cheng is a mass spectrometry (MS) scientist dedicated to the study and development of advanced MS technologies and their innovative applications in analytical chemistry and plant science. His research integrates gas chromatography-MS, liquid chromatography-high resolution MS/MS, and MS imaging to analyze the dynamic changes of endogenous plant metabolites, phytohormones, and functional small molecules under biotic and abiotic stresses. Through these efforts, he provides critical technical support for understanding plant physiological mechanisms and enhancing crop resilience.
Our laboratory focuses on utilizing innovative MS technologies to precisely identify and quantify metabolites within complex and variable biological samples. We combine targeted and non-targeted metabolomics with imaging MS and incorporate pathway analysis to elucidate the dynamic changes in metabolic networks during plant growth, development, and stress regulation. Ultimately, we aim to apply this platform to practical fields such as crop improvement, natural product discovery, and agro-ecological management.
