Admission to the Ph.D. Program

The MBAS Program Admission Committee considers all applicants for admission on an individual basis. Prospective students are encouraged to correspond with participating faculty whose research most closely matches their own interest.
Admission decisions are based on a number of factors, such as candidate's academic background, statement of purpose, letters of recommendation and relevant work experience. The appropriateness of your goals to the program and to the research interests of its faculty will also be considered.

Application Requirements

1. Bachelor and/or Master degree

In general, applicants must have earned a Bachelor's degree and/or a Master's degree by the time they apply for admission to the Taiwan International Graduate Program (TIGP). Applicant who are in the last semester and about to graduate are also eligible to apply. Applicants who already possess a Ph.D. degree will generally not be considered for a second Ph.D. degree. Applicants who have only completed the Bachelor's degree are normally admitted into the Master's Program and then advanced to the Ph.D. program upon completion of Master's courses.

3. English Proficiency

Students from non-English -speaking countries are expected to read, write, comprehend, and speak English in order to be admitted for graduate study. Applicants whose native language is not English must submit the score on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or International English Language Testing System (IELTS). The minimum requirement of TOEFL score is 79-80 on inter-based test, and the minimum requirement of IELTS score is an average 5.5. Please note that institutional TOEFL will not be accepted, only ETS International TOEFL will be accepted. The test of English proficiency can be waived for applicants who have studied two or more than two years in a college or university where English is both the language of instruction and the native language. Applicants in Taiwan may take the General English Proficiency Test (GEPT) administered by the Language Training and Testing Center . Applicants are required to pass both two parts of the test and submit their High-intermediate level certificate when applying for admission.

Generally, IELTS test score is accepted by all TIGP Ph. D. programs as an indication of English proficiency. A minimum overall Band Score of 5.5 on the Academic Test , taken within the past two years, is required for admission to programs that accept IELTS score.In addition to TOEFL and IELTS , applicants in Taiwan may take the General English Proficiency Test (GEPT), administered by the Language Training and Testing Center . Under this option, applicants must submit their high-intermediate level certificate with the application.a minimum score of 785.
  

*All above test scores must be taken within the past two years.

* Exemption from the English proficiency requirement. The test of English proficiency can be exempted for applicants graduated from universities where English is the primary language of instruction, if the applicants provide an official certification issued by the Office of Registrar.

*Applicants from English speaking countries are not required to provide the above documents but need to upload the passport to the online application.  

4. Graduate Record Examination (GRE)

All applicants are strongly encouraged to submit GRE's General Test scores to be evaluated for admission. An advanced Subject Test in biochemistry, chemistry, biology, cell and molecular biology, or physics is also highly recommended.

5. Statement of Purpose

A brief statement of the applicant's scientific and professional interests and objectives, as well as the applicant's career goals are essential elements in the statement. Report the applicant's results on any research in progress, if applicable. This statement must be written in English by the applicant, and should not exceed 2 pages.

6. Three (3) Letters of Recommendation

Three letters of recommendation are required. Letters should be submitted in sealed envelopes with signatures of the reference across the seal. Each set of the assessment forms should be given to all three of your instructors or individuals familiar with your academic or professional work for assessment propose.

7. Applicant's published paper(s) will be useful for admission

Application Deadline : 1/31, every year

The final decision to all applicants will be made and formally announced in May and June. Applications received after the deadline will not be processed.
