About Academia Sinica South Campus Greenhouse Core Facility

The South Campus Greenhouse Core will operate facilities at two locations: (1) The transgenic greenhouse located in the Southern Taiwan Science Park, which is one of the few transgenic plant research facilities and conducted genetic trait stability tests of transgenic plants in Taiwan; (2) The Greenhouse complex located at the South Campus, which consists of a Precision greenhouse and glass greenhouses (general greenhouses, air-conditioned greenhouses, and air-conditioned greenhouses for pathogen studies). The Precision Greenhouse currently houses 60 growth chambers for small/midsize plants and 4 walk-in growth chambers that can control temperature and humidity for large size plants. The Precision Greenhouse also has Conviron growth chambers equipped with air-intake and precision environmental condition that are suitable for studies of the effects of high CO2 on plant growth and photosynthesis.

The completely separated general and pathological greenhouses reduce spreading of pathogens into the general greenhouse areas. The size of the greenhouse space can be adjusted according to the needs of planting space, planting beds, planting grooves or landing. Users can set up special light panels according to experimental needs.

In order to meet the research needs of colleagues in the Taipei campus, the greenhouse in the southern campus accepts entrusted planting management services. The greenhouse is equipped with several small labs with benches to facilitate the needs of non-southern researchers for sampling and observation. To promote scientific exchange and development of agricultural biotechnology, the South Campus Greenhouse Core is open to users from other academic institutions and agricultural industry, with designated user fees.
