Coccidiosis is a severe protozoan disease in poultry. As concern grows about drug residue and drug resistance with anticoccidial drug use, natural products are emerging as an alternative and complementary approach to control avian coccidiosis. We developed a Bidens pilosa-based formulation against chicken coccidiosis. This formulation significantly reduced Eimeria infection. This treatment increased body weight and reduced FCR, leading to superior growth performance. It lowered morbidity/mortality rate, decreased OPG and gut pathology and augmented the anticoccidial index. Field trial studies also demonstrated the potential of the B. pilosa-based formulation to control chicken coccidiosis on chicken farms. USA and Taiwan patents on this formulation were granted. Currently, two local biotech companies were licensed for the use of the patent for coccidiosis.同研究人員:張力天
